This part of the project focusses on digital video and on the relation between video distribution and digital media infrastructures. The aim is to allow for comparisons between streamed media of different kinds, most notably music and video. A first (2014) substudy dealt with content aggregation and the role of new distribution intermediaries (see: publications). Its aim was to map the scope and scale of activities pertaining to aggregation in the cultural field, and to compare online aggregators for music and video—such as Spotify and Netflix—with the aim of identifying form/format-specific distribution strategies. In 2015, Vonderau will focus on multi-channel networks, and also on „on-demand culture“ from a media historical perspective.
